“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”

Your body weight only means so much.
At modrn med we prefer to look at the health of your body by measuring your body composition.
Conventional doctors use your height and weight to calculate your body mass index, or BMI, which can be useful. However, this number doesn't factor in your body composition, the percentage of body that's made up of fat versus muscle.
Let's take Rob Gronkowski for example. Gronkowski, a pro football player is 6'6" and 265 pounds. This equates to a body mass index of over 30, which puts him in the obese category. Now, if you've seen him with his shirt off you would never categorize him as obese. This shows you that BMI isn't always a useful measurement, especially for athletes.
Even if your BMI is normal you could still have a high percentage of body fat or increased levels of visceral fat that increases the risk for heart disease.
This is why we focus on optimizing our patients body composiiton, not just reducing body weight.
Muscle is a key factor in longevity and ensuring our patients have enough muscle is top priority.
